60% of Footscray residences admitted to belonging to a religion in 2011, down from 70% in 2006. The Heavenly Queen Temple, the largest temple of the Chinese sea-goddess Mazu in Australia, is brute built on the banks of the river. Its grounds intensify a 16 m (52 ft) gold statue.
